Water Polo Canada Announcement : Major League Water Polo & COVID-19

(Ottawa, ON - March 12, 2020 ) - The government of Quebec released a statement on Thursday in regards to the COVID-19 that outlined that all indoor events of more than 250 people being held in the province in the immediate future have been banned. The statement also indicated that “it is strongly recommended that all non-essential events be cancelled.” In addition to the order from the government of Quebec, the City of Montreal has announced today that all sport facilities within the city will be closed until further notice.
 

Given th ese directive s from the government of Quebec and the City of Montreal , the 2020 Senior National Championships being held at the Claude-Robillard Sports Centre from March 27-29 have been cancelled. As a result of the cancellation of the Senior National Championships, Water Polo Canada has made the decision to cancel all remaining NCL games in the Major League Water Polo (Senior) category, including the event taking place in Ottawa this weekend.

Water Polo Canada is in contact with the Sport Medicine Advisory Committee through our Canadian sport system partners and will communicate any updates as quickly as possible.
