Water Polo Canada announces the departure of High Performance Director Justin Oliveira

Aug. 10, 2021

Water Polo Canada (WPC) announces the departure of its High Performance Director, Justin Oliveira. He will be stepping down at the end of August but will assist the organization in managing the transition period following his departure.

Justin has been our High Performance Director since 2016 and was previously a coach with Water Polo Canada’s Women's Program. During his tenure as High Performance Director, Justin has been instrumental in the organization's progress in both competitive results and program development for high performance athletes. In this regard, he can be considered the architect of Canada's first Olympic qualification in water polo since the 2008 Beijing Games. He also engineered the development of WPC’s Podium Pathway, Winning Style of Play and Gold Medal Profile programs, which today provide the foundation for theoretical and practical coaching to help develop water polo players and coaches across Canada.

"Justin's brilliant mind, professionalism, collaborative approach and exceptional work ethic have not gone unnoticed. We are very proud of what he has accomplished for us as High Performance Director over the past five years and of course, we look forward to building on his legacy," said Martin Goulet, Water Polo Canada's Executive Director.

Justin is stepping down from his position at Water Polo Canada but will continue his work in high performance sport development with another organization within the Canadian sport system.

"We would have liked to keep Justin for many more years but we understand his decision. It is refreshing to know that we will now have a friend of water polo elsewhere in the Canadian sport system; someone who understands our issues and deeply loves our sport. No doubt that with his new organization, Justin will continue to support and help athletes, coaches and other sport professionals to excel and ensure that they will remember their journey in high performance sport as a truly positive one," said Martin Goulet.
