The 2023 Senior Men’s and Women’s National Champions are the Toronto Gold Jets Gold and the Calgary Renegades respectively
Ottawa, April 5, 2023 - Water Polo Canada announces the winners of its NCL 2023 Senior League Individual Awards following the conclusion of the Senior National Championships event on Sunday April 2nd in Regina, SK.
Following three days of competition, Water Polo Canada’s 2023 Senior Men’s and Senior Women’s National Champions were crowned, the Toronto Golden Jets Gold and Calgary Renegades respectively. The Senior National Championships was attended by the top women’s and men’s teams from the Eastern and Western Conferences, after qualifying following a series of regular season events which started back in December, with a total of 11 teams participating in the event. Here are all the individual award winners following the conclusion of the 2023 NCL Senior season and Senior National Championships:
Men
• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Player: Bruno Marunica (Toronto, ON-Toronto Golden Jets Gold)
• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Coach: Tuna Tali (Toronto, ON-Toronto Golden Jets Gold)
• Regular Season Top Goal Scorer: David Lapins (Gatineau, QC-Ottawa United Titans 1)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Player: Diego Gonzalez Delgado (Toronto, ON-Toronto Golden Jets Gold)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Defensive Player: Marshall Young (Regina, SK-Team Sask)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Goalie: Emirhan Ozdemir (Toronto, ON-Toronto Golden Jets Gold)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Coach: Cyril Dorgigné (Regina, SK-Team Sask)
Women
• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Player: Kelly McKee (Calgary, AB-Calgary Renegades)
• Senior National Championships Most Valuable Coach: Trina Campbell (Calgary, AB-Calgary Renegades)
• Regular Season Top Goal Scorer: Isabella Mady (Delta, B.C.-Fraser Valley)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Player: Shae La Roche (Laval, QC- Toronto Golden Jets Gold)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Defensive Player: Mikayla Hack (Regina, SK-Team Sask)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Goalie: Serena Bredin (Calgary, AB-Calgary Renegades)
• Regular Season Most Valuable Coach: Cyril Dorgigné (Regina, SK-Team Sask)
Except for the “Regular Season Top Goal Scorer” awards, all individual award winners were selected following a vote by the team coaches present at the 2023 Senior National Championships.
The Senior National Championships are part of Water Polo Canada National Championship League (NCL), which was created in 2014 to bring the domestic club age group programs under a country wide umbrella that promotes the development of the sport. The NCL offers three categories of play: Senior, 17U, and 15U.
