Canada finishes first in its Group at the FINA Women World League Super Final

Jun. 16, 2021

Canada finishes first in its group at the preliminary round of the FINA Women World League Super Final with a 13-12 victory over Hungary. It was the third straight victory for Canada at the tournament in Athens, Greece.

It was a very tightly fought match that saw Canada overpower the resilient Hungarian team in the last second of the game. Many Canadian players were outstanding during the game and were important to the victory. Kyra Christmas had four goals while Shae La Roche and Hayley Mckelvey had three. But it is goaltender Clara Vulpisi that won the Player of the Game honour with a fantastic performance. “I think it was a really great team win today. We came together and stayed composed from beginning to end and that’s something we’ve been striving to be consistent at. We came into the tournament aiming for the podium and we’re very excited to go into quarterfinals tomorrow and keep doing what we’ve been doing; taking it one quarter at a time,” mentioned Clara Vulpisi.

The other goal scorers for Canada were Axelle Crevier (1), Monika Eggens (1), Elyse Lemay-Lavoie (1).

Canada will play the loser of the Greece-Kazakhstan match tomorrow in the quarterfinals.
